Inverters are the most essential part of any Solar system or backup package.
Inverters convert Direct Current, known as DC power, into Alternating Current, known as AC power, which we use in our homes. Solar Batteries store DC power, so it is the primary job of an inverter to convert the energy coming from the battery into usable AC power.
An inverter is also responsible for managing the charge and discharge of your battery, ensuring the overall health of your Solar system or backup system is working properly
There are 4 types of Inverters
Hybrid Inverters
In most cases, Hybrid Inverters are the best option overall. A Hybrid Inverter can be used as a Grid-Tied and Off-Grid solar solution. Its main advantages are that it can blend energy sources (Solar, Battery & Grid) to make the most efficient system possible.
The blending capabilities of the Hybrid are a guarantee that you are not wasting any produced solar power. They are an excellent investment because of this feature and will see you saving thousands of rands on grid-supplied electricity in the long run.
Off-Grid Inverters
Off-Grid inverters have been on the market for a long time.
A major downfall of these types of inverters in a Solar system is that if your usage exceeds the amount of solar power you are producing, the Off-grid inverter will switch over to the grid. Ultimately seeing you waste precious (and free) solar power.
However, Off-grid inverters, are more affordable than Hybrid inverters and work perfectly in Backup packages. But, if you want to add solar panels in future, we strongly suggest a Hybrid Inverter.
Grid-Tied Inverters
A Grid-tied Inverter allows you to switch between solar and grid power. When solar power is available, it will be used as the primary energy source. But when solar energy is low, it switches to grid power.
Grid-tied systems are ideal for homes or businesses that use most of their power during the day and want to substitute their grid usage with solar power.
3 Phase Inverters
3 phase power supply requires a 3 phase inverter.
However, if you are looking for a 3 phase hybrid inverter but can’t find the size you need, you can also use one single-phase inverter on each of your phases, so you’ll need 3 single-phase inverters if you want all 3 phases covered.
